Mission in Lilongwe Malawi

Phylum is pleased to have contributed to the recent mission carried out in Lilongwe, Malawi, focused on strengthening the capacities of the Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL) for the production of Newcastle disease vaccine.

The mission was conducted in collaboration with the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Jos, Nigeria, which delegated Dr Olayinka Asala to provide technical expertise and support to the CVL teams in Lilongwe.

Funded by AFD (Agence Française de Développement) and managed by Inter Aide, this activity forms a part of a broader programme aimed at reinforcing veterinary services and supporting sustainable local vaccine production to control Newcastle disease. InterAide's long-term work in Malawi targets the rural and traditional poultry sector, which plays a vital role in household nutrition and income. Newcastle disease remains one of the main constraints to its development, with high prevalence levels causing severe mortality and an estimated annual loss of more than 25 million euros for rural communities.

Phylum extends its appreciation to all its partners and local teams for their support and collaboration which ensured the success of this mission.
